SecureFTP

  • SFTP a.k.a. SSH FTP

SFTP, or SSH FTP as is it also called, is another secure file transfer protocol that we fully support. There are many programs available that support SFTP, including the popular WS_FTP Professional. Command line versions are also available for Windows, Unix, Sun and Linux environments.

Like the other secure options discussed so far, SFTP encrypts all traffic including your user name and password. However, the method used to transfer files is completely different. Instead of using a firewall friendly port like SSL, port 443, SFTP uses the SSH port 22. Depending on your network setup you may or may not be able to send outgoing traffic on port 22.

Unlike the secure Web and Command Line methods available to you there is no integrity verification done when transferring files via SFTP.

Should you choose to use SFTP to transfer files we will assume that you are familiar with the SFTP program. Therefore will not go into the level of detail that we have discussed with some of the other methods. Please remember that you must login to the web site to change your password when your initial account is setup. We require all users change their passwords during the first login, and this can only be done via the web.
